08-20-2008 In the near future the Russian State Duma is expected to issue the long-awaited changes to the Federal Law regulating the incoming and outgoing rules for foreigners in Russia.
These changes will allow the foreign tourists who come to the Russian sea ports by ferry-boats, stay on the Russias territory up to three days (or 72 hours) without getting a Russian visa.
The foreign travel companies are in the first place attracted by the Baltic and the Black sea opportunities. The ferries can also regularly deliver Japanese tourists to Vladivostok and Nakhodka, Russian sea ports in the Pacific, thus giving an impetus to the tourism development in the Russian Far East.
08-18-2008 In 2009 a regular bus line is expected to be opened between Khabarovsk, the capital of the Russian Far East and Harbin, the largest city near the border in northeast China, via check-points Bikin (Pokrovka) on the Russian border and Raohe on the Chinese side. In summer it will be provided by ferries going across the Ussuri River, the main tributary of the Amur. A possibility of its operation in winter time on the ice-bound river is being discussed.
