• The city Amusement park
The
city Amusement park, the oldest historical landmark in Khabarovsk,
is located near the Amur promontory, an excellent lookout point,
which provides fantastic views. From here one can see the panorama
of the city and the islands on the Amur River. Bronze statue of
Count Muravyov-Amursky - the first Governor-General of the Eastern
Siberia and the Russian Far East, Local Lore Museum and the Fine
Arts Gallery are located within the city park. The central city
beach is also near-by.
• Cathedral (Komsomolskaya) Square and Muravyov-Amursky Street
Before revolution (1917), the oldest square of Khabarovsk was called
Cathedral Square.
It was named after a beautiful Assumption Cathedral, which stood
there and was a calling card of the city till 1917. In Soviet times
the Cathedral has been pulled down and the square has been renamed
- Komsomolskaya.
Only in 2001 when the newly -reconstructed Assumption Cathedral
appeared in there again, the square was given back its original
name - Cathedral.
The
old red brick building in this square dates back to 1901. Now restored
to its original splendor, it features the architectural style called
"a'la Russe". The building used to belong to the Plusnins,
well-known philanthropists in old Khabarovsk. Today it houses the
Territorial Public Library, the largest in the city.
The obelisk, which is in the center of the square now, was unveiled
in 1956. It is dedicated to the participants of the Civil War in
the Russian Far East (1918-1922).
Muravyov-Amursky Street is the main avenue of Khabarovsk, it is
the "downtown" of the city. Many stores, cafes, restaurants,
movie-theatres and theatres are located there. The main street looks
much more old-fashioned than any other street in Khabarovsk, it
is a live chronicle of the city history.
• Sports' Complex

Sports' Complex was built on the bank of the Amur River in 1957.
It is the largest sports facility in this area. The Complex incorporates
a sports arena (25,000 seats), training grounds, tennis courts,
gyms, House of Sports (6,000 seats) and others. The embankment running
along the Sports' Complex links it with the city park, one of the
favourite residents' haunts.
• Innokenti Church
Near-by
the Amur River, there is an Orthodox St. Innokenti church, one of
the oldest in Khabarovsk. In May 31, 1858 the first Russian settlers-soldiers
of the 13th Siberian battalion, landed not far from this place and
under the command of Captain Dyachenko, they began to lay the first
city streets and to build the first wooden houses. For a long period
of time, the church was closed and only in the 90th it was reconstructed
and became operational again.
• Lenin Square
The main street leads to the main square of Khabarovsk - Lenin
Square. The Monument to Lenin was unveiled there in 1925, one year
after Lenin's death.
There
are several buildings adjoining the square. A red brick structure
behind Lenin's monument is a former vocational school, which first
opened its doors in 1903. Today it houses one of the city's hospitals.
The Medical University is also located in Lenin square. A big building
faced with white marble houses the Territorial Administration.
In the center of the square there is a fountain, so much loved
by the residents of Khabarovsk during hot summers.
When the New Year comes, this square is turned into a winter playground,
beautified by a huge New Year tree and ice sculptures.
• War Memorial Complex
The
War Memorial was completed in May 9th, 1985. It is dominated by
semi-circular marble wall. Off to the sides there are 20 large steles
with thousands of names of killed and missing in WW II. Stylized
red granite standards are dipped over the eternal flame. Glory Square
is a part of a War Memorial Complex.
On the obelisk, in the center of the square, there are names of
the Far Easterners, who were awarded for their heroism with medal
of the USSR Hero. The view from the square is breathtaking! When
the weather is fine and clear, one can enjoy the mighty Amur River
and the Khekhtsir mountain range. Not far from that place, Fuyuan,
a Chinese settlement is located.
• Central Food Market
For shopping in Khabarovsk, there is nothing quite, like the Central
Food Market, which is located not far from the Railroad station
and occupies a part of the Amur Boulevard.
Shopping areas in the market include an open air and covered market
places that offer various vegetables, fruit and flowers.
Food market is full of shops selling fish, pastry, meats, eggs,
bread, dairy products, caviar and variety of other food stuff. For
Korean cuisine lovers there is a special shopping area, where one
can buy or try Korean salads and delicacies.
There are also many shops, offering clothes and footwear.
Street vendors add to the area's charm.

• Circus

Located not far from the downtown area, the Circus is a popular
place to visit. It keeps going year round. Talented and well-known
circus groups from Moscow and St. Petersburg come to Khabarovsk.
Performances are offered 3 days a week, Friday through Sunday.
• An open-air goods market (Vyborgskaya Street)
Khabarovsk
goods market is one of the most popular places so often visited
by the guests and residents of Khabarovsk. Favourite buys include
wearing apparel, leather goods, fur hats and fur coats, footwear,
household items, cosmetics, perfumes and toiletries.
Sellers from neighbouring China offer various goods at low prices.
Vyborgskaya goods market in Khabarovsk is the place where one can
find everything to his liking.

• Railroad Station Square
All
guests who come to Khabarovsk by trains are welcomed by the magnificent
statue of the Russian explorer Erofei Khabarov in whose honour,
the city is named. In 1958, when celebrating the centenary of the
city's foundation, the monument to Khabarov was unveiled at the
railroad station.
The main building of the railroad terminal is located there too.
The Trans Siberian railroad, the longest in the world, goes through
Khabarovsk and connects the Far East with the central Russian areas.
• Amur bridge
The
Amur Bridge is located 4 km from the center of Khabarovsk. Finally
completed in 1916 it was described then as "the Amur wonder".
And today the bridge, spanning the Amur River, is one of the highest
and longest steel viaduct railroad bridges in the country. 10 years
ago, when the old bridge was reconstructed, the city acquired long-hoped
for extra-bridge facilities - a new automobile bridge, rising above
the old one. The total length of the bridge is 3,5 km.
• The Local Lore Museum (11, Shevchenko Street)
It
is near the "Intourist" Hotel. Built a century ago and
beautifully restored to its elegance, the building is a home to
a unique collection of fauna and flora of the Russian Far East.
The museum also houses a picturesque ethnographic exposition and
traces the local history, from the late 19th to the early 20th century,
through the exhibits, dealing with culture and life of the indigenous
population and the Russians, who first appeared on the banks of
the Amur River in the fall of the 16th century. Among the museum's
144,000 exhibits there is a skeleton of a sea cow, a mammal from
the past, now fully extinct, mammoth tusks, bison skull and many
others.

• The Arts Museum (7, Shevchenko Street)
The
Far Eastern Arts Museum was set up in 1931 and at present holds
over 10,000 pieces of Russian and Western Arts, as well as, a unique
collection of the Far Eastern aboriginal applied arts, that includes
fish skin outfits, beautiful carpets and bone-engraved items. The
gems of the museum collection are icons from the medieval Russian
art. The Arts museum is a short 3-minute walk from the "Intourist"
Hotel and occupies one of the most beautiful buildings in Khabarovsk
- the former military club. Anton Chekhov (the famous Russian writer)
spent a few nights there when he stopped over in Khabarovsk on his
way to Sakhalin, about a century ago.
The museum contains permanent and changing exhibits on Russian
and Western Arts. There is a gift shop, selling authentic Russian
souvenirs and crafts. It also offers selected antiques.

• Military Museum (20, Shevchenko Street)
The Historic Military Museum is within easy walking distance of
the "Intourist" hotel. Housed in a building, which is
a charming specimen of old Russian architectural style, the museum,
alongside the other buildings of the historical part of the city,
recreates the atmosphere of old Khabarovsk. The museum displays
exhibits and photographs, documenting the history of the Red Flag
Eastern Military District. Museum exhibits also include armor and
weaponry.

• The Archaeological Museum (86, Turgenev Street)
Not
far from the "Intourist" Hotel, there is a small, red
brick beautiful mansion, built at the end of the 19th century by
Plusnin, the famous Russian merchant. Today it serves as the Archaeological
Museum, which contains numerous documents, pertaining to the area's
history. Museum collection contains over 40,000 artifacts among
them there are the world famous petroglyphs of Sikachi Alyan and
cultural heritage of the Golden Empire of the Jurchen People.

• Geological Museum (15, Lenin Street)
One of the museums, worthy to be visited, is the geological museum.
It is located not far from Glory Square. Museum exhibits include
mineral specimens, fossils and precious stones. Highlights of the
collection are the meteorite fragments, found within the Khabarovsk
Territory.
