31.07.2018 Flood situation in Khabarovsk


With the beginning of monsoon rains in the Priamurye region (Amur Region, Jewish Autonomous Region and Khabarovsk Territory) in the second half of July there was a significant rise of  level of the Amur river. According to the data of the hydrometeorological center, there is a significant rise of water level near  Khabarovsk  and the peak threshold is supposed to reach about 520-550 cm  on August 3-4 . (a Critical level in the area of Khabarovsk is 600 cm, with the water lifting above this point  low areas will go under water and  a strong flooding will cause  serious consequences.) According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Emergency Situations this year the risk of flooding is not expected.

For a long-term history of observations, a significant rise of the Amur river level  in the area of Khabarovsk occurs every year in August-September and averages 446 ± 21cm.

Speaking about the maximum level rise over the years, the most powerful and catastrophic one  was in 2013, when the level of the Amur reached 808 cm.
