28.07.2014 Navy Day Celebrations


The holiday dedicated to the naval part of the Russian Armed Forces was celebrated in Russia on July 27.

Navy Day has been held on the last Sunday of July, since Soviet times. Usually on that day Naval parades take place in 4 regions where Russian fleet bases are located - the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea, the Arctic and the Pacific Ocean.

Special celebrations were held in Severomorsk port city of Kola Peninsula located in Murmansk Territory. The Russian President, Vladimir Putin personally took part in the celebrations.

Besides Navy Day celebrations took place in St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Novorossiysk and Khabarovsk, where the Amur fleet has been located for many years.

This year was the first for Sevastopol, the hero city of Crimea, to celebrate Navy Day as a part of the Russian Federation as well.
