22.06.2016 Ivan Kupala Day Celebrations in Khabarovsk

One of the most famous Slavic holidays is celebrated in Russia on the night of 21 to 22 June.

Ivan Kupala holiday is opposite to the winter holiday Koliada and is dedicated to the summer solstice when nights are the shortest. The night preceding the holiday is considered to be the night for "good humour" mischiefs. On Ivan Kupala day children are engaged in water fights and perform pranks, mostly involving pouring water over someone.

Khabarovsk citizens celebrated the holiday at the bank of Levaya River. The celebration included Slavic traditional rituals:  jumping over the flames of bonfires and taraxacum wreath floating on water.
