09.01.2017 Christmas in Khabarovsk


One of the most important Orthodox holidays, Christmas, was celebrated all over Russia. Traditionally, this holiday is celebrated on January 7, two weeks later than Catholic Christmas.

The holiday was widly celebrated in all the churches and cathedrals of the city, but the main event took place in the Transfiguration Cathedral (Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral) and was marked by a traditional Divine Liturgy, held by the metropolitan bishop of Khabarovsk and Marine Territories, Vladimir. Hundreds of believers came to see Christmas Liturgy, which began on January 6, before midnight and continued for several hours. Those who could not come to the cathedral on Christmas Eve had a chance to watch the event broadcasted live on television.

The governor of Khabarovsk Territory, Vyacheslav Shport, came to see the Divine Liturgy as well.
