09.06.2017 163 Years since Establishing the Location of Khabarovsk City

June 12, 1854, Nikolay Muravyov-Amursky, the governor general of Siberia, established the place to build the first settlement in the Far East of Russia, nowadays known as Khabarovsk city.

As historians say, the foundation of Khabarovsk city was set on the site of the current Muravyov-Amursky Park.

In 1858, after Nikolay Muravyov-Amursky signed the famous Aigun Treaty with China and the broader line between the two countries was officially defined, the first military settlement, named Khabarovska, was founded by the 13th battalion, under the leadership of Yakov D’yachenko.

In 1891, 10 years after Muravyov-Amursky’s death, his monument was erected on the top of the Amur Cliff.

Nicolay II, the future Emperor of Russia, also participated in the grand opening of the monument.

Nowadays the Muravyov-Amursky Park, together with the Muravyov-Amursky Monument, are considered to be one of the main sightseeing of the city.
